Podcast funnel

A podcast funnel is the staged conversion path a B2B show drives prospects through. In a pipeline-led show it runs invitation → booking → interview → follow-up → opportunity → revenue; in an audience-led show it runs listener → subscriber → lead, a longer path with weaker tracking at every hop.

Why it matters

Drawing the funnel forces the only strategic decision that matters: which conversion the show is engineered around. Teams that never draw it default to the audience funnel, then discover at renewal time that none of its stages were measurable.

The number

The guest-side funnel's stages are published or publishing as benchmarks: 18% invite-to-booking, show rate, interview-to-opportunity rate (ThePod.fm, 2026).

How to do it well

  • Define every stage as a countable CRM event before launch: a funnel you can't query is a diagram, not a funnel.
  • Instrument the guest-side path first; it converts orders of magnitude better and pays for the show while the audience side compounds.
  • Review stage-to-stage conversion monthly and fix the single worst hop rather than pushing more volume into the top.
  • Keep the two funnels separate in reporting: blending guest conversions with listener conversions hides which engine is working.
