Post-interview follow-up

Post-interview follow-up is the structured sequence of touches after a podcast interview is recorded: thanks, episode delivery, promotion assets, and, where relevant, the transition into a commercial conversation. It is the stage where a guest relationship becomes pipeline or doesn't.

Why it matters

The interview earns permission; the follow-up uses it. Most failed podcast-as-channel attempts fail exactly here: episodes ship, guests are thanked, and nobody ever asks the natural next question. Interview-to-opportunity rate is decided in this stage.

The number

The downstream number this stage drives (interview-to-opportunity rate) is defined and publishing in the ThePod.fm Benchmarks.

How to do it well

  • Thank the guest same-day with one specific moment from the conversation: proof a human was listening.
  • Deliver the episode with ready-to-post assets (clips, quotes, links); making the guest look good is the relationship deposit.
  • Where a real fit surfaced in conversation, name it plainly within a week: 'you mentioned X; that's exactly what we do. Worth a separate conversation?' Honesty beats a drip campaign.
  • Log every follow-up in the CRM against the guest's account so the guest-to-customer journey stays visible.
